Snare Drum

The Percussion Family

Snare Drum (Ludwig) The snare drum began as a military instrument. It is a small, round drum with two heads: a batter head that is hit, and a snare head that has snares (strands of wires) attached to it. When the snares are tightened, they vibrate against the snare head, giving the drum a bright sound. When the snares are off, the sound is dull like a tom-tom. The snare drum is played with two drumsticks. The play can play taps, bounces, and drumrolls.
